It’s only sensible and responsible to have a HIV test at some points in your life. When my relationship with my present partner became serious we went for a joint sexual health screening at our local clinic to make sure we were clear. I also had a HIV test at a drop in at the Terrence Higgins Trust, which my partner attended with me - very straightforward and simple and the results came back fast. I’d recommend doing that kind of thing to anyone - just because you’ve not been told you have a sexually transmitted disease doesn’t mean you don’t have one. Testing can set your mind at rest.
